Regal Con is a convention based around ABC’s hit television series “Once Upon A Time”. It’s an annual event that takes place in Anaheim California and brings in visitors from across the country. The convention involves parties, meet and greets, Q&A sessions, photo op sessions, private and main autograph sessions, fun activities and more, with eleven cast members in attendance.
This event presented a unique opportunity for die-hard fans to connect with actors on their favourite show in an intimate setting. However, for fans from across the world who could not attend this year, there was an opportunity to tune into the show via a live stream produced on site and delivered by the Datavideo NVS-25 encoder which transmitted directly to YouTube.
Datavideo manufactured all the equipment used for the production, including PTC-150 PTZ HD cameras, the SE-700 switcher, TC-200 character generator hardware and software, HRS-30 video recorder, NVS-25 streaming encoder, SDI cabling, RMC-180 camera controller and DAC signal converters. By using a single manufacturer as the supplier meant everything was under one support umbrella.
The kit was operated by students from Golden West College. Their instructors expressed that this gave them confidence that every element would be technically compatible and create professional results.
One major challenge was that crew members were rotated in 5-6 hours shifts during the 3-day convention. This meant the students didn’t have a great deal of time to rehearse or learn how to use the gear. However, because of Datavideo’s ergonomic interfaces and intuitive control panels, each operator learned the gear quickly.
